Accountant - audit preparation (Detroit, MI)

Westbrook Quarry Freight is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on audit preparation for dock schedules, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a large organisation of about 331 people based in Detroit. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around customer tracking against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to dock schedules, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Full-time, with a steady weekday schedule. • On site in Detroit. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
