Accountant - audit preparation (Des Moines, IA)

Redstone Birch Arts Center is a cultural organisation in Des Moines presenting exhibitions and performances. We are hiring an Accountant to take on audit preparation. You would join a large organisation of about 391 people based in Des Moines. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to ticketing, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around visitor services against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with ticketing. • A degree or certificate in accounting.
