Accountant - audit preparation (Chicago, IL)

Westbrook Forge Transit Planning is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on audit preparation for accessibility audits, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a small organisation of about 26 people based in Chicago. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to accessibility audits, and clear open items. • Track costs around route schedules against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, with flexible days. • On site in Chicago, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
