Accountant - audit preparation (Chicago, IL)

Fernwood Wren Energy Group delivers power and gas plans across the Chicago region. We are hiring an Accountant to take on audit preparation. Reliability is the job, and people here take pride in answering the phone at 3 a.m. when needed. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to usage data, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around billing disputes against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with usage data. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Chicago, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
