Accountant - audit preparation (Boston, MA)

Fernwood Rowan Freight moves freight for manufacturers and retailers out of Boston. We are hiring an Accountant to take on audit preparation. On-time is the promise and we work hard to keep it. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to carrier rates, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around dock schedules against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Boston, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We reply to every applicant.
