Accountant - accounts payable (Virginia Beach, VA)

Fernwood Umber Inspection Services is an inspection company in Virginia Beach with field technicians and lab staff. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. You would join a large organisation of about 846 people based in Virginia Beach. What you will do • Track costs around test reports against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with field inspections. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Virginia Beach. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
