Accountant - accounts payable (St. Louis, MO)

Bright Kestrel Early Learning runs childcare centres in St. Louis caring for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, and we need an Accountant to lead our accounts payable. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Track costs around meal programmes against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to enrolment, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with enrolment. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, with flexible days. • On site in St. Louis, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We reply to every applicant.
