Accountant - accounts payable (Spokane, WA)

Northwind Wilder Insurance sells home, auto and small-business insurance in Spokane, and we need an Accountant to lead our accounts payable. We care about how people feel on the worst day of their year. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Track costs around claims against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to customer complaints, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with customer complaints. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Spokane. • We reply to every applicant.
