Accountant - accounts payable (San Jose, CA)

Harborlight Wilder Early Learning runs childcare centres in San Jose caring for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to classroom supplies, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with classroom supplies. Working arrangement • Contract for twelve months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in San Jose. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
