Accountant - accounts payable (San Jose, CA)

Highbridge Harbor Environmental Services Group is an environmental-services company in San Jose with routes, transfer stations and recycling. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. Early starts and steady work; we look after our drivers. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to weigh tickets, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around landfill records against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with weigh tickets. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 20 hours a week, with flexible days. • On site in San Jose. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
