Accountant - accounts payable (San Jose, CA)

Fernwood North Community Partners is a San Jose charity working with residents on basic needs and opportunity, and we need an Accountant to lead our accounts payable. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around volunteer shifts against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in San Jose. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
