Accountant - accounts payable (remote)

Fernwood Lakeside Environmental Services serves homes and businesses with collection and disposal in Chicago, and we need an Accountant to lead our accounts payable. We take pride in clean streets. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around fleet maintenance against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with service complaints. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, afternoons. • Fully remote, with an occasional day on site in Chicago. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
