Accountant - accounts payable (remote)

Summit Vista Insurance is an insurance company in Minneapolis with claims and service teams. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around catastrophe response against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to policy renewals, and clear open items. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Experience with policy renewals. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 20 hours a week, afternoons. • Fully remote, with quarterly visits in Minneapolis. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
