Accountant - accounts payable (remote)

Stonegate Haven Insurance sells home, auto and small-business insurance in Hartford, and we need an Accountant to lead our accounts payable. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around catastrophe response against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to customer complaints, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with customer complaints. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Full-time, on a regular day shift. • Fully remote, with a monthly team day in Hartford. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
