Accountant - accounts payable (remote)

Summit Thistle Insurance provides coverage to households and businesses around Portland, and we need an Accountant to lead our accounts payable. You would join a small organisation of about 15 people, working mostly from home. What you will do • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around customer complaints against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with claims. Working arrangement • Contract for twelve months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • Fully remote, with quarterly visits in Portland. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
