Accountant - accounts payable (remote)

We are growing our team at Rivermark Pike Insurance and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be accounts payable. Claims teams work together and share what they learn. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to customer complaints, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around catastrophe response against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 20 hours a week, afternoons. • Fully remote, with a monthly team day in Des Moines. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
