Accountant - accounts payable (remote)

Highbridge Mill Energy supplies electricity and gas to homes and businesses around Jackson. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. Reliability is the job, and people here take pride in answering the phone at 3 a.m. when needed. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to billing disputes, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around meter readings against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Experience with billing disputes. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 28 hours a week, spread across three days. • Fully remote, with quarterly visits in Jackson. • We reply to every applicant.
