Accountant - accounts payable (Phoenix, AZ)

Fernwood Pine Water Authority supplies drinking water and treats wastewater for Phoenix and nearby communities. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. Safety and public health guide our decisions. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around water quality against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to meter reading, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with meter reading. Working arrangement • Full-time, on a regular day shift. • On site in Phoenix. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
