Accountant - accounts payable (Indianapolis, IN)

Rivermark Fern Transit Planning plans bus and rail service for cities around Indianapolis, and we need an Accountant to lead our accounts payable. You would join a small organisation of about 17 people based in Indianapolis. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Track costs around route schedules against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with ridership counts. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Indianapolis, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
