Accountant - accounts payable (Hartford, CT)

Nova Energy is an energy provider in Hartford focused on reliable service and fair billing, and we need an Accountant to lead our accounts payable. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Track costs around usage data against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with hardship programmes. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Hartford, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
