Accountant - accounts payable (Hartford, CT)

Harborlight Amber Insurance is an insurance company in Hartford with claims and service teams, and we need an Accountant to lead our accounts payable. Claims teams work together and share what they learn. What you will do • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around customer complaints against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Experience with premium billing. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, mornings. • On site in Hartford. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
