Accountant - accounts payable (Detroit, MI)

Cedar Wren Freight moves freight for manufacturers and retailers out of Detroit, and we need an Accountant to lead our accounts payable. Dispatch, drivers and warehouse staff talk to each other constantly. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to loads and lanes, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around customer tracking against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, with flexible days. • On site in Detroit. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
