Accountant - accounts payable (Detroit, MI)

We are growing our team at Silverline Lantern Insurance Group and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be accounts payable. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Detroit. What you will do • Track costs around premium billing against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with customer complaints. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 28 hours a week, spread across three days. • On site in Detroit, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
