Accountant - accounts payable (Des Moines, IA)

Ironwood Umber Civic Services is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on accounts payable for public records, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. Public service means patience, paperwork and pride in the outcome. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around constituent requests against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with public records. Working arrangement • Full-time, on a regular day shift. • On site in Des Moines. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
