Accountant - accounts payable (Chicago, IL)

Amberfield Oak Transit Planning plans bus and rail service for cities around Chicago. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. You would join a large organisation of about 574 people based in Chicago. What you will do • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to service alerts, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around accessibility audits against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with service alerts. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Chicago. • We reply to every applicant.
