Accountant - accounts payable (Chicago, IL)

Northwind Timber Press produces print and digital publications in Chicago. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. We like people who notice details. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to proofing, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for nine months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Chicago. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
