Accountant - accounts payable (Chicago, IL)

We are growing our team at Westbrook Orchard Energy and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be accounts payable. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around usage data against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to service connections, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with service connections. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Chicago. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
