Accountant - accounts payable (Buffalo, NY)

Amberfield Mill Environmental Services is an environmental-services company in Buffalo with routes, transfer stations and recycling. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. You would join a small organisation of about 12 people based in Buffalo. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around weigh tickets against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to service complaints, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, afternoons. • On site in Buffalo, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
