Accountant - accounts payable (Birmingham, AL)

Silverline Vista Water Authority is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on accounts payable for water quality, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a large organisation of about 211 people based in Birmingham. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around treatment plant data against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Experience with water quality. • A degree or certificate in accounting.
