Accountant - accounts payable (Birmingham, AL)

Harborlight Sable Insurance provides coverage to households and businesses around Birmingham. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. You would join a small organisation of about 127 people based in Birmingham. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to underwriting files, and clear open items. • Track costs around customer complaints against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Experience with underwriting files. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, spread across three days. • On site in Birmingham. • We reply to every applicant.
