Accountant - accounts payable (Birmingham, AL)

We are growing our team at Westbrook Kestrel Water Authority Group and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be accounts payable. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Birmingham. What you will do • Track costs around capital projects against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to billing accounts, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with billing accounts.
