Accountant - accounts payable (Birmingham, AL)

Westbrook River Insurance is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on accounts payable for customer complaints, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. Claims teams work together and share what they learn. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around underwriting files against budget and explain variances to managers. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Experience with customer complaints. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Birmingham. • We reply to every applicant.
