Accountant - accounts payable (Birmingham, AL)

Foxglove Birch Farms supplies farm and food customers across the Birmingham region. We are hiring an Accountant to take on accounts payable. You would join a small organisation of about 47 people based in Birmingham. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around grower contracts against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to seasonal crews, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with seasonal crews. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Birmingham. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
