Accountant - accounts payable (Birmingham, AL)

Silverline North Construction is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on accounts payable for materials orders, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Birmingham. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to materials orders, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around safety records against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Experience with materials orders. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Birmingham. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
