We found an apartment we can afford - 2 months and counting

We signed a lease yesterday after a long hunt. I worked as an event coordinator before this. A local programme helped with the deposit. If you are searching, keep going.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 2 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

That is a real win. Enjoy it.
