Passed on a lead and they got the job (update)

I referred a former colleague for a role at my new company. It has been a long 5 weeks. I was nervous but it went well. It really does come around.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 12 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
