After 6 weeks of searching, we found an apartment we can afford in Sacramento. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. The landlord took a chance on us. It was worth not giving up.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
