Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - what worked for you?

Three companies in St. Louis cut staff in the same month. It has been a long 21 weeks. The postings I see are fewer and ask for more. Who has switched fields?

I moved into operations work. The skills carried over and there were more openings than in my old field.
