Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - what worked for you?

Many of the people I know in my field were laid off this year, including me as a machine operator. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I am open to a pay cut if the field is stable.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
