Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - what worked for you?

Three companies in Denver cut staff in the same month. There are 3 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I have transferable skills but no direct experience elsewhere. How did you choose?

A short certificate helped me more than a new degree would have. Check what local colleges offer.
