Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - what worked for you?

Many of the people I know in my field were laid off this year, including me as a nurse's aide. I am in Sacramento, in case local advice matters. The postings I see are fewer and ask for more. Who has switched fields?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

Look at job postings to see which skills repeat, then fill the gap. That gave me a direction.
