Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - what worked for you?

Our sector has been shrinking and I am unsure if I should wait it out. It has been a long 3 weeks. I have transferable skills but no direct experience elsewhere. Who has switched fields?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
