Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - what worked for you?

Three companies in Jacksonville cut staff in the same month. Any experience at all would help. The postings I see are fewer and ask for more. Who has switched fields?

Talk to people in the field you are considering. Two coffee chats changed my mind about one option.
