Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields?, welding apprentice here

Three companies in Kansas City cut staff in the same month. I am in Kansas City, in case local advice matters. I am open to a pay cut if the field is stable. Who has switched fields?

Talk to people in the field you are considering. Two coffee chats changed my mind about one option.
