Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? (Cleveland)

Our sector has been shrinking and I am unsure if I should wait it out. I am in Cleveland, in case local advice matters. The postings I see are fewer and ask for more. Who has switched fields?

I moved into operations work. The skills carried over and there were more openings than in my old field.
