Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - any advice?

Three companies in Baltimore cut staff in the same month. It has been a long 5 weeks. I have transferable skills but no direct experience elsewhere. Which areas are hiring?

Look at job postings to see which skills repeat, then fill the gap. That gave me a direction.
