Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - any advice?

Many of the people I know in my field were laid off this year, including me as an IT help-desk technician. The postings I see are fewer and ask for more. Who has switched fields?

Look at job postings to see which skills repeat, then fill the gap. That gave me a direction.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
