Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - any advice?

Many of the people I know in my field were laid off this year, including me as a hotel front-desk agent. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. The postings I see are fewer and ask for more. How did you choose?

A short certificate helped me more than a new degree would have. Check what local colleges offer.
