Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - any advice?

Three companies in Salt Lake City cut staff in the same month. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I have transferable skills but no direct experience elsewhere. Who has switched fields?

Look at job postings to see which skills repeat, then fill the gap. That gave me a direction.

A short certificate helped me more than a new degree would have. Check what local colleges offer.
