Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields?, accountant here

Our sector has been shrinking and I am unsure if I should wait it out. I worked as an accountant before this. The postings I see are fewer and ask for more. Which areas are hiring?

Talk to people in the field you are considering. Two coffee chats changed my mind about one option.

I moved into operations work. The skills carried over and there were more openings than in my old field.
